What’s LoadRunner training all about?

Posted by admin - 13/11/09 at 07:11 am

LoadRunner training starts with the introduction about LoadRunner, its functionality and requirement. You will understand how to use Record, Run, Action, Parameters, Transactions, Controller and Correlation. LoadRunner is a load testing tool that facilitates load testing against application thus determining the behavior of the application (server and network) when under normal load stress or prolonged testing depending on the objective of the load test. It simulates thousands of users interacting online in order to test how well a system stands up under a heavy load.

LoadRunner training course involves working on three different tools. They are Virtual User Generator (VuGen), Controller and Analysis.

  • Virtual User Generator (VuGen)

It is a protocol based testing tool that is used to record the protocols from a wide range of user applications in order to playback and make the required modifications. It is basically used to simulate the action of users on a protocol level. The Virtual User Generator in turn consists of Parameterization and Correlation.

  • Parameterization

LoadRunner allows any portion of a string to be replaced by a parameter. Parameters may be defined in a CSV or dat file; or they may be defined dynamically in a LoadRunner script. Parameterization is often used for data cache, date constraints, data dependency and also when the application requires unique data.

  • Correlation

It is the method employed by LoadRunner to handle dynamic content. The LoadRunner usually identifies the dynamic content on the basis of the left and right boundaries and ordinal identifiers. Correlation automatically inserts LoadRunner commands to parameterize the dynamic contents it identifies in the server response.

  • Controller

Once a script is prepared in VuGen, it is run via the Controller. LoadRunner provides for the usage of various machines to act as Load Generators. For instance the tester connects each script in the scenario to the name of a machine which is going to act as a Load Generator, and sets the number of virtual users to be run from that Load Generator.
LoadRunner uses monitors during a load test to monitor the performance of individual components under load. The results of the above can be viewed with the help of an analysis tool

  • Analysis

This tool takes the completed scenario result and prepares the necessary graphs for the tester to view. It is used to pinpoint bottlenecks and also identify performance issues. The tester can use the graph to analyze and make the necessary adjustment and save the report in multiple formats as a LoadRunner report.
