What tools are available in Rational suite?

Rational Suite is an integrated lifecycle software development solution that combines best practices, tools, and services for the Microsoft Windows platform. IBM Rational covers the entire life cycle of software development with its tool set. The test Suite consists of different tools:

• Rational Test Manager
• Rational Robot
• Rational Functional Tester
• Rational Manual Tester
• Rational Administrator

• Rational Test Manager

Rational Test Manager is primarily used for managing all Test Assets. It is mainly used for Managing test activity, Executing and Reporting. It is the main console for test activity management, execution and reporting. It is capable of testing everything ranging from manual to automated testing which includes unit testing, functional regression testing, and performance testing. Rational Test Manager is meant to be accessed by all the members of project team. It can be used to run test on local and remote machines. It provides a detailed test evaluation, also includes a series of predefined graphical and textual reports capturing the crucial aspects of application quality and test completeness which helps in generating meaningful reports.

• Rational Robot

Rational Robot is an automation testing tool for functional testing of client/server applications. It provides a test automation tool for QA teams for functional testing of client/server applications. Let’s test engineers to detect defects and also define test cases. It includes a built-in test management, integrates with Rational Unified Process tools. Rational Robot supports multiple UI technologies and helps in defect tracking, change management and tracing the requirements.

• Rational Administrator

It is the basic tool for managing the authentication for the different repositories of Rational Test Suite. It is a tool for managing associations between test artifacts. With the help of rational administrator we can, create and manage rational projects, create and maintain users and groups upgrade project assets such as requisite pro databases and test data stores and also enable a rational project for use with unified change management.

• Rational Manual Tester
  

It is used to organize the manual testing. Rational manual Tester enables us to create different steps and specify some Verification Steps. All these steps are saved and these test cases can be executed and marked after completion. Results of execution are stored and logged in the Test Manager.

The Rational Manual Tester tool is for test creation and execution that encourages reuse of test steps, in an effort to minimize the burden of systems and software evolution on business analysts and testers.

• Rational Functional Tester
  

Rational Functional Tester is an automated functional testing and regression testing tool. Provides testing capabilities for functional testing, regression testing, GUI testing and data-driven testing. It simplifies test creation and visualization with Storyboard testing, it can be used to validate dynamic data with dynamic data validation wizard, it can automatically detect data entered during test recording and prepare the test for data-driven testing. Rational Functional Tester also provides the ability to define and automate keywords which can be reused in both functional and manual tests.
